One click creates a friend invite with 3 moves. Your player name is “You”.
What beats what?
Size does not decide every matchup: the ant beats the elephant. Each character beats one other character and loses to one, giving this game the same three-way cycle as classic rock paper scissors.
| Your move | Elephant | Human | Ant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elephant | Tie | Win | Lose |
| Human | Lose | Tie | Win |
| Ant | Win | Lose | Tie |
All 3 winning matchups
- Elephant beats Human.
- Human beats Ant.
- Ant beats Elephant.
Example: If you lock in Elephant and your friend locks in Human, you win. If you both choose Elephant, the round is a tie.
Hand signs and playing in person
The Elephant Man Ant hand game uses the same characters as Elephant Human Ant: ‘man’ and ‘human’ name the same move. In the Indonesian form described by Kawasaki City’s contributor, show your thumb for elephant, index finger for human or little finger for ant. Agree on a count and reveal together. In this online game, the character buttons replace finger signs and both choices stay hidden until locked.
A worked round
Alex chooses ant and Sam chooses elephant: Alex wins, even though the ant is smaller. If Sam chooses human against Alex’s ant in the next round, Sam wins. Two humans tie and require a replay. Remember the complete loop—elephant beats human, human beats ant, ant beats elephant—instead of ranking the characters by size.
Tie rates and fair choices
There are 3 moves for each player, so there are 3 × 3 = 9 possible ordered pairs of moves. Exactly 3 pairs match. If both players choose independently and each move is equally likely, the tie rate is 3/9 = 1/3, or about 33.3%.
Under the same assumptions, each player wins about 33.3% of rounds. No move is inherently stronger: each beats 1 and loses to 1. These are mathematical odds, not a guarantee about people who repeat favorite moves or copy each other.
For a quick decision, agree to play until the first non-tie. If you prefer a best-of-three, agree to count wins yourselves and use rematches until someone has two; tied rounds do not count as a win.
History and origins
This cycle is played in Indonesia as suit or suwit. It is also known as Suwitan or pingsut, and as Semut, Orang, Gajah—ant, human and elephant. An Indonesian contributor to Kawasaki City’s multicultural newsletter describes thumb for elephant, index finger for human, and little finger for ant. The elephant overpowers the human, the human defeats the ant, and the ant defeats the elephant. Settle it follows that cycle with clickable moves.
